Logo Mark & Identity Design

I've been designing logo marks for nearly 50 years now, and I'm still active because it's so enjoyable.
 

Back in the day, there were no computers, so I started by handcrafting letters while referring to typebooks. Thanks to that, I learned the curves, straight lines, and presence of letters inside out. I believe this experience greatly influences one's understanding of typography.
 

Understanding that 'letters are pictures' makes the design of logos and marks come to life. Even with the use of computers, I take pride in being able to create unique results, staying true to that belief. Handling fonts, selection, and typography are based on my extensive experience in America.
 

Though I've been using computers for over 30 years, the speed allows for more simulations, and the design process feels like a jazz session, always enjoyable.

Logo Creation Case Study:

When designing the logo for Aoyama Zaisan Networks, the focus was on creating a sense of trust and quality, reflecting the company's deep relationship with its customers and its vision for a prosperous future with a sense of status, dreams, and hope. Various elements and expectations were considered to shape the logo, and in this process, the attention was drawn to the concept of "wealth" represented by the character "財" in "財産ネットワークス".
 

The historical significance of "wealth" was explored, acknowledging both its positive and negative aspects, while emphasizing the positive feelings associated with activities related to achieving prosperity, leading to keywords like "hope", "expectation", and "joyful results".
 

An appropriate shape to express the feeling of "wealth" was found in the octagon, as the number "8" has been considered auspicious across different cultures and religions, symbolizing luck and prosperity. In Japan, the number "eight" also signifies expansion and is often used in celebrations to wish for good fortune and prosperity.
 

The proposed design focused on the "powerful octagon" as the motif, although careful consideration was given to avoid overlapping with concepts like "feng shui" and "geomancy," which might evoke certain imagery. To maintain the uniqueness of the logo, the octagon's vertices were positioned upright, ensuring that it is perceived purely as an octagonal shape without inadvertently evoking specific associations.

A: We incorporated delicate white lines into an octagonal design to form the initials "AZN" for Aoyama Zaisan Networks. This design expresses seriousness and composure, enhancing the company's sense of trust.

B: The design is inspired by the block-like shape of an octagon. As mentioned in the company profile, it represents a seed full of energy and potential for future growth, almost resembling an "energy nucleus" ready to burst.

C: This design features an octagonal hole within a regular triangle A. The combination of the triangle and octagon brings a sense of stable expansion, and it also conveys the power to firmly grasp the fortune of the octagon.

D: The deformed face of a man evokes a Picasso-style image. Using a face in a company logo is a unique approach, but it represents Mr. Aoyama as the company's representative. The bright and serious expression in the illustration fosters communication with customers and creates a sense of closeness. After all, the origin of communication lies in human nature.
